Commercial fire and explosion in Woodstock

An explosion from a building at the corner of Plein and Victoria Streets in Woodstock occurred earlier this evening, where a fire broke out. This was followed by several secondary explosions shortly afterwards.

City of Cape Town's Fire & Rescue have responded, with numerous appliances including an aerial appliance in use. 2x jets and 2x BA sets in use.

Two injuries have been reported at this stage, with two patients who sustained burn wounds. Metro Rescue, ambulance and Metro structural vehicle on scene. The two adult male patients, condition code red, sustained 70%to100% burn wounds and were taken to Grootte Schuur Hospital.
The cause of the explosions are unknown at this stage, this is an active scene. Further details will be released as they become known.

Cllr Ian McMahon reported that it is the shop next to Sheltchs BBQ Tonight that was alight.
