Power Factor, Free Recoil Energy and Muzzle Flip oh MY!! Understanding Recoil!!

One of the least discussed topics, is how different weights of bullets and velocity effect your follow up shots, muzzle flip, accuracy, and enjoyment of shooting. Power Factor is one basic calculation to quantify recoil. PF is used by competition shooting organizations like USPSA and IDPA. It is simply the bullet weight multiplied by muzzle velocity divided by 1,000. A better more accurate calculation is the calculation that is used to discover “FRE” or Free Recoil Energy. This calculation can be found at https://saami.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Gun-Recoil-Formulae-2018-07-9-1.pdf. The FRE calculation is a more accurate and a better calculation for the specific gun and round you are shooting. FRE takes into consideration not just bullet weight and velocity but also the firearm weight and the powder charge. Felt or Perceived recoil is what the individual feels when firing the firearm with a specific round. The felt recoil can be mitigated by the weight of the gun and its placement as well as things like recoil pads and compensators. Our Mills Ammunition 9mm is built to shoot a Power Factor of 130 through a 5-inch barrel. Our self-defense ammunition has the same recoil as our practice and competition ammunition. You don’t need HOTTER Rounds!! Shoot Mills Ammunition, PRACTICE A LOT and enjoy your time at the range. Defend yourself with our hollow points!! www.millsammunition.com
