In Regina, Clive Weighill, chief coroner for the Saskatchewan Coroners Service, announces two inquests in relation to the ten stabbing deaths that took place in the province on September 4, 2022, and the subsequent death of Miles Sanderson in police custody. The inquests are expected to begin in late spring or early August 2023, once police investigations have concluded and final pathology, toxicology and neuropathology reports have been produced. Weighill announces that a jury comprised of Indigenous persons will be formed in order to establish the circumstances surrounding the death of Miles Sanderson in police custody and provide recommendations to avoid similar occurrences in the future.
