The Love of A Mother
1Samuel 1-2

Obj: that the brethren may have strong and loving man-woman and family relationships

Intro: Summary of Characters
Elkanah – loves/supports his wife Hannah, Levite, brings family before the Lord
Samuel – well known judge/prophet of Israel – servant of the Lord
Hannah – favored wife, but childless/barren
Loving mothers:
-One of two mothers on Solomon’s judgement using the sword
-mothers prayed for their sons’ life – Elijah, Elisha

The Love of a Mother:
1. Endures Trials of Life
a. Barrenness
b. Insult from enemies – 1:7 – “adversary”
c. Husband – sometimes not understood – 1:8
d. Children – serve/care for them – 1:22, 2:19

2. Emanates from the Love of God
a. Prays to God, the source of her strength – 1:10-11
b. Praise God in favor – 1:28-2:10

3. Exalts the Lord and His works
a. Rejoices in the Lord – godly mothers serve the Lord well – 2:1
b. The Lord is dignified – 2:2-10 – show His wonders – apply in the church

Message/conclusion:

Let us learn from Elkanah, Hannah & Samuel how we may serve the Lord better
By following this His pattern in the family structure
