Following a three-year investigation into the family business' finances, New York Attorney General Letitia James on Wednesday accused former President Donald Trump of enormous fraud in a civil lawsuit. In order to benefit himself and his family, according to James, Trump "falsely inflated his fortune by billions of dollars." The lawsuit aims to effectively shut down the former president's namesake company, the Trump Organization.

James stated, "Today, that conduct ends. Mr. Trump thought he could get away with the art of the steal. Former presidents must be held to the same standards as regular Americans since there aren't different laws for different categories of people in this country.

James claimed that she has forwarded some of the charges to the Manhattan U.S. Attorney's Office and other federal agencies.
