Body cams show man shot and killed by police at Albuquerque gas station

Albuquerque Police officers shot and killed a man in Northwest Albuquerque.

Officers were called to the Valero Gas Station at 2721 Coors Blvd. NW around 11 p.m. Sunday night.

They found a man in a car who they thought was drunk and passed out. Officers asked the man to step out of the car. The man has been identified as 26-year-old Keshawn Thomas.

Moments later, there was a confrontation and several officers opened fire, hitting Thomas. Thomas was transported to the hospital and was confirmed dead by hospital staff, according to APD.

Police said they found a gun at the scene. Investigators are reviewing video to learn more about what happened. APD will continue to investigate the incident "over the next several months."
