The Sukada tortoise is the third largest continental tortoise in the world after the Galapagos and Aldabra tortoises, and is the largest of all continental tortoises. Juveniles are about 2-3 inches in size and grow very fast, reaching 6-10 inches (15-25 cm) in their first few years of growth. Adult Sukada can be 24 to 36 inches (60 to 90 cm) long and weigh 100 to 200 pounds (45 to 91 kg). Its life span is about 50 to 150 years, and can be much longer. The oldest living turtle in captivity was the Sukada tortoise at Giza Zoo in Egypt, who died in 1986 at the age of 54. But the Sukada's lifespan is apparently longer than 54 years, and it is thought that the Sukada's lifespan is no less than that of the Aldabra tortoise, which can reach around 150 years.
