This video is about why you should undersell yourself, especially in the beginning of doing something that is beneficial to you in whatever way. Not many people teach us how to sell yourself in a way that benefits us in the long run.
Philosophers have told us long ago that:
- You have to first be SMALL in order to become BIG
- You have to PAY in order to GAIN
Many people want to start earning at a high pay rate because their ego prevent them from starting at a low pay rate -- forgetting that you do so in order to get the higher paying jobs in the long run.
These are a few examples to illustrate my point:
When starting a coaching business, many first offer free coaching or at a very low rate for the sake of building their portfolio and thus having references that prove their value - thus being able to charge a higher price later.
As a freelancer, many first work for less to get good reviews on a platform, which help them to be in a position later on where they can charge more for their services.
When launching a new product on an E-Commerce platform, sellers first give out products for free to gain 5-star reviews, which help increase the customers' trust and thus generate more sales.
When wanting to get full-time employment, people often start with a lower paying internship just to get a (well paid) long-term contract.
