Harry Potter is a seven-book series of novels for teens and young adults written by J. K. Rowling. The first book was published in 1997 and the last book in 2007.

The series, which combines fantasy with the almost extinct British boarding school genre, was the debut work of Rowling, a former teacher.

There is a multimedia franchise centred around it, consisting of a series of movies, video games and various other merchandise, but the books are the centrepiece.
