A Baltimore man, Adnan Syed, was freed from prison today after a judge vacated his conviction from 1999. Subject of the popular podcast Serial, Syed was originally found guilty and sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his ex-girlfriend. Prosecutors decided to revisit the case and ultimately chose to file a motion to vacate the conviction.
Prosecutors are still investigating the case and Monday’s ruling did not result in Syed’s exoneration. Prosecutors have 30 days to determine whether to pursue a new trial against him.
