I made this freestanding puzzle in my toymaker's shop using traditional woodworking tools. Each piece is hand-sanded and finished with a mixture of mineral oil and beeswax I make in my shop.

The puzzle is freestanding. However, you can easily knock it over. The tippy nature is part of the challenge of building the stack. When I gave my five-year-old grandson this puzzle, he assembled it in less than a minute. He is very good at puzzles. Some adults have difficulty.

It may be played with as freestanding farm animals and combined with other toys for imaginative play.

Playing with puzzles develops hand-eye coordination, gross motor skills, fine motor skills, shape recognition, memory, problem-solving, goal setting, and patience. All of these skills are gateways into higher-level skills. This puzzle is a beginner-level puzzle designed to get a child started.
