James continues on his journey to explain what pure religion is compared to empty religion. According to the biblical principles he puts forth, he is cautioning not to let your heart be deceived. We see all too often that people in today’s church environment don’t want to hear the full depth and breadth of the bible when it comes to instructing our lives. James tells us that empty religion or more specifically ritual religion is worthless and you must represent yourself in a manner that is pleasing to God. Developing a pure relationship with God has certain requirements to it and James is clear on several of them, bridle your tongue, help the widow and orphan and follow the word of God to the very best of your ability. Then you will have pure religion that will truly represent you and your relationship with God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
