Duels Sandbar Ferry on the Savannah River

In 1740 Thomas Goodell purchased 500 acres of land about 4 miles on Augusta, Georgia on the Savannah River (across from Route 28 (Aiken) on theouth Carolina side. Duelers would cross Goodell's Sandbar ferry and fight it out in a large field.

The Goodell house pictured was sold ca 1795. presumably upon the death of Goodell.
