The #SilentWalk&Run is a fun activity aimed at attracting the hearing community to partake in the walk/run so that they have an appreciation of the Deaf and hard-of- hearing community’s daily lives.

The inaugural #SilentWalk&Run was hosted in 2017 in commemoration of International Week of the Deaf (Now International Week of Deaf People).

International Week of the Deaf is an initiative of the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) and it was first launched in 1958 in Rome, Italy.

The walk/run aims to raise awareness of gender-based violence within the hearing-impaired community.

Since then, it is celebrated annually by the global Deaf community during the last week of September

The 6th annual event was held at the Marks Park Sports Club in Emmerentia, Johannesburg, and activities included a 5km walk, aerobics, tennis, and yoga.
