Self-sabotage is a form of self-hate when you say it like that, it really hits hard doesn't it. This is an important topic and if you feel you may be responsible for self-sabotage, stick around and let me see if I can help you out.
We are often our own biggest obstacles on the way to success. 95% of who you are is unconscious automatic processes that you don't even realize are happening.
When you self-sabotage it's because your 5% conscious mind is going in a completely different direction than the 95% of you. This is why it can be so extremely hard to break this negative habit of holding yourself back. Mel Robbins talks a lot about self-sabotage and she has a rule that I believe can help most anyone it is called the 5 second rule.
The idea behind this rule is that you have 5 seconds to make a decision. Picture this you getting ready for bed and you have this great plan in your head, tomorrow starts the journey to a better you. You get to bed at a decent time and set your alarm for 5 am.. You plan to wake up and conqueror the day. In the middle of the night your AC goes out and you get horrible sleep. You get maybe 4 hours of sleep max. 5 AM comes quick and you are hard asleep. The alarm goes off. You roll over and hit snooze at that very moment the 5 second rule applies. Mel says you have 5 seconds to make the conscious, hard decision to get out of bed and put your feet on the floor.. If you wait any longer than 5 seconds, your subconscious mind will make the decision for you and it will always choose the easiest path. In this case it would be going back to sleep.
If you can, picture a thermostat and how it works. You set the temperature to a desired degree. If the air reaches a hire temperature than the desired temperature the thermostat sends a signal to the air conditioner and the air conditioner kicks on to cool the room down. The 95% of your subconscious mind that I spoke of earlier operates like this. If you hypothetically have your success set to 80 degrees when you start to really heat things up and start to see more success the subconscious mind sends a signal to cool things off.. This is when you end up self sabotaging yourself.
So what are some easy steps you can take to stop yourself from self-sabotage and to increase the level of success you want to see in your life.
1) Work on your self-worth - Work more on what makes you happy and less what you think you should be working on due to societies impression on you. Take time for yourself and learn to love yourself.
2) Surround yourself with people operating at high levels – If you don't know anyone that is operating at a high level get involved in online communities, read books, and listen to positive messages like this one right here.
3) Create small goals that you know you can crush, crush them and celebrate the small victories. There is no victory too small for a celebration.
4) Remember the 5 second role and implement it daily. This is a very powerful technique and you can see results instantly.
