If you will have eternal life the fruit of believing Jesus is absolute and solitary. Add anything to it and you will miss the mark and eternal life. This is the gospel that confounds the wise. "The just shall live by faith". Or said another way, the just shall have life by faith. Not by works.

Many have believed that their works prove their faith. That's the righteousness the Jews Paul preached to in Rom.7 were captive to. The works treadmill that makes you a slave to sin. The same treadmill the Jews are delivered from if they will believe in Jesus. The same treadmill all who believe works, even good works, prove their righteousness will be delivered from if they will believe in Jesus.
