Is There Not A Cause?
Txt: 1Samuel 17:29
“And David said, what have I now done? (Is there) not a cause?”

Intro:
Background of the story - read through chapter 17
- David was told to go to his brethren to bring some food
- David heard the challenge of Goliath
- David purposed in his heart to fight Goliath
- To intend or resolve to perform or accomplish

Define CAUSE:
Producer of an effect – cause and effect
A basis / ground for an action
The reason why
First cause - God

Focus on the CAUSE why David acted as he did

Reason for choice of topic - its necessity
It is always important to know, and accept that things happen for a reason
- It helps us avoid moral relativism
- It ultimately points to God
It is easily neglected / missed out

Positive CAUSES - exertion: battle, campaign
So many ---
Government campaigns, in the school, in the home

In our text -
That the heart of the men will not fail
People need encouragement to go on through life
The perfect encouragement could only come from God
Truth that brings Security, love, meaning…
That the name of God be not profaned – it should be exalted before all!
Worship – a clue to life’s meaning

Final and most important CAUSE

The cause of Christ (on earth)
That people would have the life God wants us to have
The cause of Christ (ultimately/in the end)
That people would be saved / reconciled with God

Message: If there is a cause, go for it!

Application:
-In school, in the church, the home, the work place, everywhere!
