Latest news from the United States! Flash flood in New York and evacuation in Oak Glen
The New York metro area is under a flash flood warning today due to storms hitting the area. Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Staten Island, as well as parts of New Jersey and Long Island, have already received 2 inches of rain overnight, with another 1-2 inches expected in the coming hours. Winds range from 10 to 15 mph outside of JFK and LaGuardia and are expected to stay that way until noon. A flash flood warning was in effect for parts of Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island until 7:30 a.m., and officials warned people not to drive on flooded roads and climb high if necessary. As the storm moves further east, this warning remains in place for parts of East Queens and Long Island until 8:30 a.m. Weather conditions in the tri-state area were so extreme that at one point authorities even warned that a tornado could land, although the risk had passed by 5 a.m. Evacuations have been announced in Oak Glen and Forest Falls due to mudslides. Flash flood warnings were issued Monday afternoon as residents of San Bernardino and Riverside counties still feel the impact of Tropical Storm Key, which brought heavy rains and flooding that shut down roads, including Forest Falls, Oak-Glen and Lake Matthews. Evacuations were also ordered on Monday evening in the regions of Oak Glen and Forest Falls. Flooding also shut down San Bernardino, California on Monday until flood damage is repaired.
