It will take at least two weeks to repair the 50-centimeter-diameter pipe

The chaos seen in Madrid, September 15, after a huge water pipe burst has flooded its streets and tunnel.

A large water pipe of the Canal de Isabel II near the Marqués de Vadillo roundabout, in the Carabanchel district of Madrid, suffered a break last morning that burst the roadway and flooded the streets and the section of the M-30 that runs through the area.

At 1:30 p.m. the tunnel was reopened and at 2:00 p.m., Antonio López, the access from Marqués de Vadillo to the tunnel and the M-30 towards the south node, but the access towards Pirámides and towards the interior road of the A-5 remain inoperative, as detailed by the Mobility Management Center.

Firefighters continue to pump out water and hope to restore all traffic by 3:00 p.m., but it will take at least two weeks to repair the 50-centimeter-diameter pipe, according to canal technicians.
