Adult green turtles are similar to herbivorous sea turtles. Their main food is seagrass or algae, which live in tropical and subtropical waters. But the chicks are assumed to be omnivores to accelerate their body growth. There is likely a gradual transition as the turtle reaches a size large enough to escape its predators.
