When movies with very similar themes and messaging happen back to back sometimes we have to ask why. One such case is the upcoming “The Woman King” from Sony Pictures and “Black Panther Wakanda Forever” from Disney Marvel. What the MCU sequel and the historical fantasy have in common is that they both seem to depict similar themes when it comes to black women. While both films have a star studded cast including the likes of Viola Davis, Lupita Nyongo, Danai Gurira, Angela Bassett, Letitia Wright, John Boyega, and Lashana Lynch one has to ask why the depictions of black women in popular cinema is so masculine? Is this a positive representation or an accurate depiction of black history? Tune in to this video to find out.
