1. VELDDRIF - About 146km from Cape Town, you will find a little town of Velddrif where the stars shine brighter, where the river and sea meet, fish abound, and tranquility resounds in the call of the birds.

The meandering Berg River reflects the tranquility of this fishing village - birder’s mecca. Peace, silence, tranquility, and plenty of adventure activities are some of the terms to describe this little town on the West Coast. If you throw in the Carinus Bridge, Bokkom, Flamingos, and Fisherfolk, then you know you are in Velddrif.

2. PORT OWEN - Is exactly what its name suggests, a Port, with a beautiful Marina and Yacht Club. Port Owen is surrounded on three sides by the great Berg River, which limits its future growth making sure it remains restful and exclusive. The unexplored area around Port Owen is an idyllic location for a restful stay. Berg River curls around two sides of the town and feeds 3.5km of canals, creating sheltered waterways for superb kayaking.

3. BOKKOM LAAN - Is the home of a small bokkom industry in Velddrif. Bokkoms are Mullet (fish) that are salted, then strung into bunches and hung up to dry, almost like fish biltong. They are unique to this part of the West Coast and every visitor to this area should try them before leaving.

4. LAAIPLEK - Is situated right at the mouth of the Berg River. The South African Sea Fisheries Museum is well worth a visit in the area and since the Berg River is tidal, the area is also well-known for birding. The region boasts abundant birdlife and you can spot pelicans, herons, lesser and greater flamingos, the European bee-eater, blue cranes, and the endangered oystercatcher.
