Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announces details of measures to help with the rising cost of living and holds a news conference during the final day of the Liberal party's caucus retreat in St. Andrews, New Brunswick. The federal government is doubling the Goods and Services Tax Credit (GSTC) for six months, introducing the first phase of a national dental-care program, and providing a one-time $500 top up to the Canada Housing Benefit for renters. The dental and housing measures are part of the supply-and-confidence agreement between the Liberal party and the NDP. The prime minister is joined by ministers Chrystia Freeland (finance), Randy Boissonnault (tourism and associate minister of finance), Jean-Yves Duclos (health), Ahmed Hussen (housing), Dominic LeBlanc (intergovernmental affairs) and Ginette Petitpas Taylor (official languages and minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency). Trudeau also announces a national holiday on September 19, the day of the state funeral for Queen Elizabeth II.
