Warming winters have allowed pests to survive in warmer soil over the winter, which allows those pests to create havoc, destroy trees and crops. In Colorado in the 90s the pine beetle took over due to warming winters, and destroyed many trees over many years. Today pests are doing damage to crops in northern regions where those pests couldn't survive before.
