Gloria and her new adopted baby!

Gloria is a Holstein that I bought from an individual last year. She was malnourished and not doing very well. Her previous owners had just weaned her calf off of her, so she was depressed. When we got her home we began looking for her a baby to call her own. We found a little black heifer calf that we named Tilly; Gloria took to Tilly immediately and claimed her as her own. Tilly is still here on the farm and doing well!

Gloria just recently had her own baby on September 6; having a little girl that I’ve named Precious (since she’s so adorable).

Gloria was producing too much milk for just one baby calf… so I went on the hunt for an orphaned baby. We found this little black and white faced little boy calf yesterday at the salebarn.

So I’m now getting him and Gloria to adapt to each other. She lets him nurse, but hasn’t quite accepted him just yet. So I keep him and Precious in their shed and turn momma in with them when it’s time to eat.

As soon as I get the lot outside of the shed fixed so that the new baby won’t be able to get out, I plan to let them all bond together in that lot during the day.

Now I just need to figure out a good name for this little guy… any suggestions?
