Beyond their ecological importance as critical keystone predators, wolves are also really patient, generous, and loving dads.

Mexican gray wolf Lighthawk first earned the badge of fatherhood in 2018. On May 3, 2022, he and his mate Trumpet celebrated their third litter. He and his family represent the Wolf Conservation Center's active participation in the effort to save this species from the brink of extinction.

The WCC, a 501c3 non-profit organization in South Salem, NY, is one of a network of facilities participating in the Mexican Wolf Species Survival Plan - a bi-national initiative whose primary purpose is to support the reestablishment of Mexican gray wolves in the wild through captive breeding, public education, and research
