Former FDNY Fire Captain Brendan Fogarty, who lost his job due to unlawful mandates, spoke out strongly against the mandates in New York during a council meeting on Friday. Brendan Fogarty spent twenty years working for the New York City Fire Department, rising through the ranks to become a captain.
“I was a captain for the New York City Fire Department. I served for 20 years, and I went from being essential to being disposable from the mandates. And my religious exemption was denied. And I received those threats of termination, and I retired. I would love to go back to my job,” Fogarty said. “I gave my best years to this city, 20 years from 21 to 41, and then they take it away. At the peak of my earning career, I made it to captain. I went through that process. You should be ashamed of yourselves,” Fogarty lamented.
This is one of the most amazing speeches I have heard in recent times. On 9/11 we should never forget the heroes who risked their lives to save others. They were heroes then and they are heroes now. Sometimes, heroes need our help too and so we are here for them when they need it. They need it now!
