Pennel returns after a brief stint on the Bears Practice Squad as this was clearly a salary cap maneuver by Bears GM Ryan Poles. Bears’ CB Jaylon Johnson called out 49ers QB Trey Lance following Chicago’s Week 1 win over San Francisco. Johnson was asked about how Lance played and Johnson responded by saying, “what you think he did? He ain’t do shit. We made him play quarterback.” Johnson added that Lance will be a good player down the road, but that forcing him to play QB was the key over letting him run loose. The Bears defense limited Lance to 13-of-28 passing for 164 yards and 1 INT. Justin Fields outplayed Lance in the 2nd half of the Bears win.
