DM 24-1: First Arch ISO on the 5.19 Kernel Available

Like being on the bleeding edge? Run Arch with the freshest ISOs. What is new here?

Suppot for AMD’s Secure Nested Paging, ZSTD-compressed firmware files, basic support for the Loongarch RISC-V CPU, and ARM Scalable Matrix Extension support. If this sounds like Greek to you, you aren’t the only one, and you probably aren’t the kind of user that Arch is targeted for. Don’t feel bad. I’m not really, either.

Go DO this Monday. Make it look at you like this grumpy cat, admitting that you beat it into submission, rather than it thumping you, as uusal. Own it. You’ve got this. Believe it. Relish in it. Kick this Monday in the tail.

DM 24-2: Salix 15.0 Released

What is Salix? In their own words:
Salix is a GNU/Linux distribution based on Slackware that is simple, fast and easy to use, with stability being a primary goal. Salix is also fully backwards compatible with Slackware, so Slackware users can benefit from Salix repositories, which they can use as an "extra" quality source of software for their favorite distribution. Like a bonsai, Salix is small, light & the product of infinite care.

In other words, it is meant to be lightweight. This new version comes with faltpak support baked-in, but the developers have painstakingly assembled thousands of packages for their repositories over the last 6 years, which is how long it has been since the last stable release. It runs on top of the 5.15 LTS kernel, so most current hardware should be supported.
