Footing Clean Up | Day 1 | Forest to Farm

In this episode, Brian and Terry look at cleaning up all that dirt from those footings being dug out--and it’s A LOT.

The crew spares you from with both foundations and heads straight to the site. With a great vantage point to show the footings, the camera reveals a pretty cool industrial site-looking scene.

The footings dug up are massive and way more than what they needed. Standard residential footings usually measure around 24 inches wide and 6 by 12 inches deep. But theirs are anywhere from 18 to 24 inches wide and 8 to 12 inches deep big footings. So some straightening out had to be done.

The forest and farm crew spends a good portion of this video doing good old-fashioned hard work to clear out the crawlspace area. The duo hauls out the dirt with a shovel and a wheelbarrow.

As much as it can wear you out, it’s good for you to get work done outdoors now and then. It’s pretty refreshing. Hard labor cleans a lot of toxins out of your body and just makes you feel good.

But before you grab your wheelbarrow and clean up your footings, here are a couple of tips to keep in mind:

TIP #1: Stay hydrated -- In this Carolina heat, it’s easy not to think about needing water. You get to be so involved with the clean-up you think you can drink after the job’s done. But you need to stop and get hydrated; unless you want to start seeing flashes of color in your head.

TIP #2: Wear a hat -- When you’re out in the sun, this will help direct the heat away from your head. Plus, it makes you feel way more relaxed, and you don’t get all burnt. No one wants to end up pink or red on their ears or neck, or face.
