Authorities began clearing the massive Wood Street homeless encampments after being given the green light by a judge. Officials from the California government, which owns the land under the freeways, have cited problems such as sanitation, fire and crime. Those living there, around 200 homeless people, said they have nowhere else to go, with many saying resources have been wasted and could be better spent creating a space for them.
