Prediabetes is on the rise, and as the nations of the world grow in affluence, its incidence is bound to soar. Yet, many studies have shown that not only is prediabetes preventable, but it is also reversible. Simple lifestyle interventions have been shown to be highly effective at reversing the disease. More and more scientists are gaining knowledge on how this debilitating and sometimes fatal illness arises. One thing we do know for sure is that it can be controlled. Screening high-risk populations for prediabetes and early intervention to prevent progression to full-blown diabetes can delay the onset of Type 2 diabetes for at least 15 years. Studies are ongoing on how best to prevent and treat prediabetes, but so far, lifestyle changes have proven most effective at treating prediabetes.
