Why Its a Bad Idea to Receive Communion in a State of Sin

Why does the Church say those in mortal sin shouldn't receive communion? Shouldn't she want everyone to have Jesus?
Well yes, but only if receiving Him doesn't merit eternal punishment and profane His divinity.
