Steilacoom, Washington was the first incorporated town in Washington, 1854. A sea captain from Maine founded Steilacoom. A sawmill and jail was established, the first in Washington State. In the late 1800's, the sawmill shipped lumber to San Francisco by way of ships. The Steilacoom Ferry Landing provides service to Ketron and Anderson Islands.
