Modern Age Editor Daniel McCarthy calls it "palliative liberalism:" pushing superficial "compassionate" solutions to relieve pain (and reduce backlash) without addressing the cause of the condition. Eventually, this doctrine can succeed in disenfranchising and eliminating political resistance altogether.
