What Retro Disney Games Need & Deserve a Compilation
In this episode, we take a look at a number of retro Disney games and Retro Disney Games Need & Deserve a Compilation, similar to the recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Cowabunga Collection.
Make sure you check out the videos from John Riggs, Jay at Square Pegs, and Kris at GameDad on what compilations they would like to see.

The talk of the gaming world in early fall 2022 has to be the Cowabunga Collection for T. This is an amazing collection of games from the original NES, Game Boy, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, and arcade wrapped up with international releases, artwork, and more. While discussing how amazing this collection is with John, Jay, and Kris, we got to talking and wondered what other series were primed for similar releases. For me, being the Disney fanatic in the group, wanting to see a compilation of Disney titles on one disc or cartridge made the most sense to me. What are my picks? Read on to find out
Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse
Whether on the Genesis, Master System, or Game Gear, Castle of illusion is one of the best Disney games ever released, and it's not just because it was all started with a mouse. With great replayability, amazing artwork, a beautiful soundtrack, and is available on a variety of different systems. I would love to see some of the animation cells that went into making Castle of Illusion.
Mickey Mania
A rare entry on this list that was not only on the Genesis but the Sega CD, Mickey Mania is a love letter to the Merry Melodies shorts from the 30s and 40s. Beautiful artwork that feels like it leaps off the screen, you once again control Mickey but this time you battle Pete through various worlds and cartoons.
Quackshot starring Donald Duck
When you combine Donald Duck with Indiana Jones you get Quackshot, another beautifully animated, wonderfully scored, and terrific game starring titular Disney characters. As you progress through different levels on your adventure, you also encounter Daisy, Huey, Dewey, Louie, and even Goofy.
The Little Mermaid
Something I just missed as a kid because I thought it was a girl's game, The Little Mermaid on the NES and Game Boy is actually quite faithful to the source material. You play as Ariel through a number of different levels, again featuring an amazing score. That's one thing about all of these games is the music is just so good.
The Disney Afternoon Collection
You can't have a Disney video game compilation without the best games Disney ever put out, can you? The Afternoon Collection includes Ducktales, DuckTales 2, Darkwing Duck, Tailspin, Chip & Dale's Rescue Rangers + Rescue Rangers 2. These games were all originally released on the NES, and most of them also had a Game Boy release as well, adding to the multiple systems on a cart option. If nothing else, can we just get the Disney Afternoon Collection in physical form? Please?
Toy Story
While not to the level of Donkey Kong Country, the original Toy Story on the Super Nintendo, Game Boy, Game Gear, and Sega Genesis simply looked and felt like you were playing the movie at the time. As you play as Woody, progressing through different levels, starting in Andy's bedroom and moving throughout the house. This is an amazing 16-bit and 8-bit game that I would love to have in a collection. The second game is good as well, but to me, the first is a little bit more special.
Goof Troop
I have to admit this is a game that I haven't played yet, but watching Jay at Square Pogs talk about it recently, I want to. Perhaps not the most popular of the Disney afternoon cartoons, Goof Troop featured Goofy and his son Max (who is Max's mother anyways) as they try to solve puzzles along their adventures. Featuring large levels, great artwork, and an amazing soundtrack, Goof Troop is one that I will be on the lookout for physically on my next game hunt.
There are so many amazing Disney titles released on video games over the years, what are your favorites? What games would you want to see on one compilation? Let us know in the comments section, and until next time, see you real soon.
