"Where were they shooting at? At the residents! It was scary all the time" —

civilians surviving Ukrainian shelling to find temporary home in Kherson

Across the Kherson region, 1,150 internally displaced people have been registered as of today. Many children from the military zones were sent to vacation at the sea, the elderly and mothers with infants chose to move immediately to Kherson in order to settle down and get accustomed to the new world. They note that when they arrived in the city, concerned citizens promptly provided housing, accommodations and told them where to apply for social support and medical care.

"From the Ukrainian side [flew] at civilians: it is not clear where they are shooting. We lived in the center of the village, we have schools nearby — the schools were destroyed, the kindergarten across the street was also destroyed. There is no equipment there. What were they shooting at? At the people! It was scary all the time," said Natalia, a refugee from Kalynivske village.

Alla Barkhatnova, Minister of Labor and Social Policy of the Kherson region, arrived at the meeting with the refugees and indicated the main course of development and assistance they would receive in the near future. Large families with infants, people who have lost everything are getting a new home. Everybody goes through verification, get registered, receives a certificate for settlement in one of the accommodation centers, and is entitled to a full social package.
