Designed to take on the Russian T-14 Armata and striving to replace the German Army Bundeswehr Leopard 2 MBT the KF51 Panther is a truly software-defined tank fully enabled to collect and disseminate information on the multi-domain battlefield.

It has a new 130mm cannon that surpasses the firepower and range of the Leopard 2 and is even able to have additional armament options of the HERO 120 loitering ammunition.

According to Rheinmetall the Panther is designed to control assigned unmanned aerial vehicles such as on-board or off-board drones, loitering ammunition and a range of uncrewed ground vehicles.

Right now the tank is designed for a crew of three, supporting future force structures with reduced numbers of soldiers.

Two crew stations are located in the chassis, with one dedicated to the driver and an optional station dedicated to a company commander, a drone operator or a wingman pilot.

The combat weight of the tank is about 59 tons making it lighter than the Leopard 2 but with the same range of about 500 km.

The KF51 Panther has active protection against large-calibre KE and ATGMs, a sensor-based reactive system, passive protection, mine protection, an top attack protection system (TAPS), pre-shot detection capability and many other defensive features.
