Skeleton of female "vampire" unearthed at cemetery in Poland

The remains of a female "vampire" have been unearthed by archaeologists at a cemetery in Poland, researchers announced this week. CBS News reported.

One of the earliest vampiric depictions stems from cuneiform texts by the Akkadians, Samarians, Assyrians and Babylonians, where they referred to demonic figures such as the Lilu and Lilitu. Heritage Daily reported.

The grave dates back to the 17th century in the village of Pień near Ostromecko. It contained the skeleton of a young woman, according to a statement released by the university. USA Today reports.

A sickle had been placed on her neck and a padlock had been placed on the big toe of her left foot, the statement said. USA Today is reporting.
