Kennewick, Washington - Just before 10:30 a.m. on August 22, 2022, Kennewick Police officers were dispatched to the Circle K at 7707 W. Deschutes Ave. for a welfare check of a person who was passed out or slumped over the wheel and parked by a fuel pump. Two Benton County Sheriff's Office Deputies were near the area and stopped to assist the Kennewick officers. Deputies and Officers attempted to wake up the person in the vehicle.

The suspect puts what appears to be a screwdriver into the ignition of the vehicle. The Officer then opens the door and orders the suspect out of the vehicle. From the Deputy's view on the passenger side of the vehicle, the suspect reaches for an object on his right side. The Deputy then announces the object is a gun.

The suspect exits the vehicle and begins to run on foot KPD Officer fired a taser at the suspect but it had no effect on him and he continued to run toward an apartment complex on 425 North Columbia Center Blvd. As the suspect runs down the sidewalk, he removes a gun from his waist. Officers and Deputies give multiple commands to the suspect to drop the gun. The suspect refuses to comply with their commands and fires his weapon. The suspect then runs into an apartment complex. The suspect raises the firearm to his own head. Deputies and Officers give the suspect commands to drop the gun, but the suspect does not comply with their commands. The Deputy fired their weapon at the suspect who falls to the ground. Deputies and Officers arrest the suspect and provide the suspect with first aid, and call for paramedics. It was determined the suspect was not struck by gunfire.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital and was later released. The suspect is booked into the Benton County Corrections Center.
