Artificial intelligence - does this not worry you?

Humans desperately want to create AI that is smarter than them. Cant they see the possible outcome of this? Like seriously?
Like a manager trying to teach the apprentice how to be a better manager than him, and not even think that sooner or later he will take over his job.
Its not rocket science for crying out loud. You only have to think about what can happen 3 steps in front of you..
