In this episode, we unbox and check out our latest Video Games Monthly box for the month of September 2022.

We are back once again with an unboxing from Video Games Monthly, and there's a very specific reason why we have resubscribed. In August 2022, they shared that they were adding Japanese GameCube games as an option to select to receive games for. While I have talked quite a bit about my Panasonic Q lately, for me the bigger thing was collecting for my spice orange Japanese GameCube. I have a number of Japanese GameCube titles already, so having the opportunity to have even more was super exciting.

For those not familiar with Video Games Monthly, it is a monthly video game subscription service where you can receive three, four, five, or even 10 retro video games delivered to your mailbox. They feature games from systems dating back as far as the Atari 2600, the Colecovision, and the Intellivision, or as new as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One S | One X. We have resubscribed to the $35 a month three game per month plan, and currently, we have selected that we would like to receive Japanese GameCube games, Sega Master System Games, Famicom games, and games for the Wii U. We have also let them know we are not interested in receiving role-playing games, JRPGs, rhythm or dance games, or Minecraft games. With this out of the way, let's see what we got.

Sega Master System
Alex Kidd: The Lost Star
Value: $16
I have to admit I've never been a huge Alex Kidd fan. I always thought his character model looked weird, was he a kid, was he a monkey, what was he? Well, I'm trying to look past my biases and glad to see that an Alex Kidd game was included in this month's box. Taking a close look at the pins, the game was in terrific shape, perhaps the cleanest cartridge-based game I have received from VGM in quite some time.

Wii U
Lego Jurassic world
Value: $7
I'm honestly surprised that a complete in-box version of Lego Jurassic world wasn't worth more, but I guess there must be a ton of them out there! The Lego games are pretty similar from one to the next, just set in different universes. This is not something I probably would have purchased on my own, but the Lego games are always just silly fun. It also reminded me that I still need to watch the new Jurassic World movie now that it has hit streaming services.

Japanese GameCube
Mario Kart: Double Dash
Value: $20
I was legit excited to see this game, I absolutely love Double Dash and wish Nintendo would bring this mechanic back. It played great, it looked great, and it was so much silly fun. The disc did look like it had a little bit of polishing solution left around the spindle, but above and beyond that, this is a good-looking game.

Japanese GameCube
Rockman EXE Transmission
Value:? $19 Estimated
This is been a hard one to find a value for as I have not found this on either PriceCharting or on Game Eye. Looking on eBay I've seen listings upwards of $50! But looking at sold listings I'm seeing this valued at about $20 plus shipping and handling. This game may be tough for me to be able to play, it looks like I may need to use some translations to be able to fully enjoy what's going on here. If you know anything about it let me know in the comments!

Total box value: approximately $62
So approximating the value of RockMan EXE Transmission based on eBay listings, this is a hell of a box. I love the fact that I was able to get a few Japanese GameCube games, something I really wanted. And the fact that one of those games was Mario Kart Double Dash, even better. Well played Video Games Monthly, let's see what we do back in month two in October Floyd.
