1 Samuel 09 The People Ask for a King (1 Samuel 8)

1 Samuel 8 is the most political chapter in the Bible. This is where Israel asks for a king, with the caveat that he be "like all the other nations." It's not going to go well. These people could not wait on the LORD for Him to choose a king. They had to have one right now! Sound familiar? This is a microwave, click bait society. You want something you can have it right now. We really have to fight this tendency in ourselves. God is working out His plan and purposes over thousands of years, not over a few seconds. He has all the time in the world. We feel like we don't because we're pressured and face crises. The problem here is everyone has crises, but if we don't have a strong relationship with the LORD, we're going to do the same stupid things that Israel did and the consequences were tragic. How do you want to live, like that generation of Israel? Or like a Samuel who is willing to wait on the LORD's timing? You make the call...

See you tonight,
