Psalm 92:1 It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High:

Why is it a good thing to sing praise and give thanks unto the most High? Its good manners to say thanks when someone does something for you. Every breath we take is God given, therefore, NOONE does more for us than him.

So to not say thanks, to not praise him for all he has done, continues to do, shows ungratefulness in the extreme.

If we can give thanks and praise to men for temporal actions with temporal benefits, should we not give thanks to the Eternal Father, who offers us all the gift of getting to know him? A gift that has eternal benefit. For those who have already accepted the gift:

1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that *ye should shew forth the praises* of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

You *show* his praise by allowing your life to reflect how thankful you are. Thank you Jesus for calling me out of darkness, help me, as I walk in your light, to "show praise" to you, for you deserve it all. Hallelujah!
