Rebel Civics Academy is a collection of Rebel Civics episodes that are uniquely tailored to provide civics education to middle and high school students. To protect their identities, students in Rebel Civics Academy use pseudonyms and avatars. In this episode we have four student participants, ranging from 6th to 12th grades.

This episode is about the Constitution of the United States and meets the federal Constitution Day educational requirements. An overview of the Constitution is taught using a slide presentation with student interaction. We cover the purpose of government, as well as the purpose of the Constitution, the basis of its existence, document organization, key delegated powers, and limitations imposed by it. This episode includes the concepts of Federalism, State vs Federal government authority, together with some history, all of which is based on the Founder’s view of how our union ought to be arranged.

The class meets the requirements of the September 17 Constitution Day federal mandate on all schools that accept federal funding. Public Law 108-447 (2004) and a 2005 Department of Education mandate requires that “Each educational institution that receives Federal funds for a fiscal year shall hold an educational program on the United States Constitution on September 17 of such year for the students served by the educational institution."

Many schools do not conform to this requirement. This episode may be used by teachers and school administrators to meet the federal requirement. It can also be useful to parents, self-study students, private schools, and home school collaboratives.

About the Instructor
Keith Bessette has taught the Constitution in local schools to students ranging from 6th to 12th grades, in both public and private schools in two Florida counties. Keith is host of the Rebel Civics series on Unsafe Space, which covers a wide variety of civics topics. Backed up by historical fact and source material, the Rebel Civics series analyses current events through the philosophical lens of individualism and individual rights, articulating how the Founders of these united States might resolve many of today's ills if they were alive today. Keith is also host of the Liberty Solutions audio podcast focused on the Constitution. He is also a writer for UncoverDC. Formerly, Keith was an electrical and systems engineer with 30 years experience designing communications equipment for military aircraft, surface ship, and submarine platforms. He holds a BSEE from University of Maryland with a concentration in astronomy and astrophysics.
