The ruins of Mohenjo Daro are located in Pakistan's Sindh province near the Indus River. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site which is considered one of the best preserved historical urban settlements in South Asia.

Mohenjo Daro was discovered in 1922 and, to-date, mystery surrounds the disappearance of its civilization. As the heavy rains and massive flooding have cast devastation across Pakistan, these have also hit Mohenjo Daro, inflicting damage on the ruins of the ancient city.

Several big walls that were built nearly 5,000 years ago, have collapsed because of monsoon rains. The site's Buddhist Stupa, however, remains intact. Some outer walls and some larger walls separating individual rooms have been damaged.

UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres will visit flood affected areas of Pakistan on 9 September, however, it is not certain if he will visit the archeological site of Mohenjo Daro as well.
