John Stuart Mill was a philosopher who promoted the concept of Utilitarianism. Utilitarianism is a theory of life and morality that suggests that pleasure and freedom from pain are the only things desirable as ends. It dictates that all desirable things are desirable either for pleasure inherent in themselves or as a means to the promotion of pleasure and the prevention of pain.
