Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage says there was “one thing” in new UK Prime Minister Liz Truss’ speech after winning the leadership vote which was interesting.
“She said ‘I was elected as a conservative and I will govern as a conservative’,” he told Sky News host Paul Murray.
“And I thought, blow me down, wouldn’t that make a nice change.”
Mr Farage said for the last 12 years of conservative leadership, the last three – with Boris Johnson serving as prime minister – were elected pretending to be conservative.
“They’ve actually governed as a sort of cross between Social Democrats and a modern-day left-wing green party,” he said.
“If Liz Truss is serious about governing as a conservative, serious about cutting taxes, about reducing regulation … then what I’m going to do for the sake of the country, I’m going to give her the benefit of the doubt.”
