Did Jesus Contradict Himself? Matthew 5:16 vs 6: 1-4

{Did Jesus Contradict Himself?} Why would Jesus instruct us to let our good works be seen by others (Matthew 5: 16) if He also instructed us to do our good works in secret (Matthew 6:1-4)? Am I misunderstanding something?
