Fresno Police have released a video depicting whats being classified a "Suicide by Police."

On Saturday, June 18, 2022, at 8:30 P.M., officers from the Northeast Policing District were dispatched to Vinland Park at 4695 East Gettysburg Avenue regarding a subject waving a gun.

It was unknown to the officers at the time that the 9-1-1 caller was making a false report with the intent to force a confrontation with the officers in a suicide-by-cop attempt.

Two patrol officers and one K-9 officer responded to the call. The contact with the subject, later identified as 30-year-old Gonzalo Aceituno Jr., resulted in an officer-involved shooting.

Mr. Aceituno was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A critical incident video containing a description of the event, 9-1-1 audio, and body-worn camera videos is being shared with the public.

As a matter of accountability, the Fresno Police Departments goal with critical incident videos is to be transparent with the community.

“It alarms me that critical incidents involving persons in crisis or with suicidal ideations are on the increase. Although de-escalation protocols are consistently utilized by police officers to minimize use-of-force incidents, their options are limited when confronted by an individual armed with a gun. Regardless of anyone’s personal situation, there is help and community resources for those struggling with mental health issues. We are saddened by the outcome, and that police officers were placed under circumstances necessitating deadly force.” said Chief Paco Balderrama
